I won! Kind of…

I was delighted when I got the French court's Aye that my former landlord should pay me the rest of my deposit with two years of interest. After two years of paperwork, courts, and significant expenses, it was a happy ending to a awful apartment situation in Paris.

Or so I thought.

However, just because a French court orders someone to pay you what they owe you, and this with two years of interest, does not mean that anything happens.

Just because it has been put down in black and white by a court ruling that my landlord owes me money does not mean that he will pay me back.

No, this verdict in January 2022 is just the beginning of another bureaucratic process, it seems. Now I have to hire a huissier de justice to begin another bureaucratic process to get the money my landlord owes me.

To start with, that will be another 300 €.

After 2 ½ years and more than 3000 € paid out to various offices and individuals, my short and very unpleasant stay in the apartment in Paris feels like a never-ending and financially draining story.

Thanks for reading! I hope you found it valuable and worth your time! Until next time, remember to get your facts straight and that whatever good times you have will never come back as bad times,
